Blackie's Backyard

Blackie’s Backyard was established in 2013 by owners Todd and Debbie Allen. We take pride in being the first dog boutique to open in Eureka Springs. Blackie’s Backyard is conveniently located at 14 Spring Street in the beautiful downtown historical district of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. It had always been a dream of Debbie’s to own a dog boutique. We had Blackie, a Border Collie, along with four other dogs, including Blackie’s littermate sister, Katie. Blackie had a rough start in life with major health issues. His biggest obstacle was when he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. He limped along for the first seven years of his life, and then the decision had to be made to put him down or have a total hip replacement on both hips. The only answer was to do the hip replacement. It was a great choice, as he lived to be over fourteen years of age. His veterinarian bills were astronomical, but we loved him dearly, so when the time came to name the store, we could not think of a better name than Blackie’s Backyard.

As you enter our little boutique, you will notice a homemade bicycle cart hanging from a beam that was made by Todd for Blackie. Blackie’s last nine months of life were a struggle as his back was in poor condition, so he had lost mobility in his back legs. We would sit him in his cart and take him for daily bicycle rides, as we have had and still have a motto: NO PUPPIES LEFT BEHIND. While visiting our store, you will also notice pictures of our family dogs, past and present. They have been and will always be a huge, important part of our lives—never to be forgotten.

We were lucky enough to find a baker that would privately label their dog treat recipes for us, and the treats have been a major hit. Blackie’s picture is on the label of these well-known treats!

Our store is in a small, cozy tourist town in the Ozark Mountains, where there are unlimited things to do. We have endless walking trails to enjoy with your dog if that’s your thing! Most stores are dog friendly, and most restaurants with outdoor seating will allow you to enjoy a meal and beverage while keeping your dog by your side.

It can be a struggle making things fit in a small 465-square-foot building. We always try to pick unique products that you can’t find in your big-box stores. The best part of our job is when we get to meet nice people with awesome dogs. We offer a treat to every dog that comes in to shop with us. We want to thank everyone that shops at our little mom-and-pop store, as we know there are many to choose from. Thank you for choosing us.
